Gregory James Aziz, more commonly known as Greg Aziz, is the current chairman and chief executive officer of the National Steel Car, a rolling stock manufacturing company based in the city of Hamilton, Ontario. Gregory J Aziz purchased the company back in 1994 when he noticed how its previous owners, the Dominion Foundries and Steel (commonly known as Dofasco), are struggling with keeping the company out of bankruptcy. The crisis in the locomotive industry during the 1980s to the 1990s resulted in the uncertainty whether the National Steel Car would make it. Fortunately, they survived the crisis in the industry, but they were mishandled badly that their numbers are slowly crashing down.
Gregory James Aziz decided to take the ownership from the Dominion Foundries and Steel and started to revitalize the company. During the leadership of Gregory James Aziz, the National Steel Car faced different changes in its company policies. Gregory James Aziz also looked for new business partners that will help him in his mission to return the company to its former glory. As the 2000s decade came in, the National Steel Car managed to add a couple of new employees and the rate of their rolling stock production increased.
Gregory James Aziz never stopped in transforming the National Steel Car from a struggling company to one of the most competitive companies in Canada. He managed to reshape the company to become one of the largest rolling stock manufacturers in Canada, owning the most modern facility for production. He also signed deals with corporations in the United States, opening up a brand-new market for the National Steel Car. The tapping of the United States market resulted in the creation of five new production lines that would produce train cars that will be used by the leading American rail transport companies.
Because of their drastic transformation into becoming one of the most successful businesses in Canada, the National Steel Car was given several awards. They were also given the ISO 9001 Certification between the 1995 to 2005 decade, being the only North American train car builder to do so. The National Steel Car under the leadership of Gregory James Aziz also commenced on creating a war memorial for the employees working in the company who have sacrificed their lives during the First World War and the Second World War. Today, the National Steel Car has more than 3,000 employees and have an annual rolling stock production of more than 12,500.
